Sales Leader

SaaS Account Executives command a national median OTE of $151k, with top-market metros like SF Bay Area pushing well above that. SDR/BDR roles — the entry point into SaaS sales — sit at a median of $75k, reflecting the heavy base-weighted pay structure typical of pipeline-generation roles.
Sales Engineers represent the highest-compensated individual contributor role at $185k median OTE, driven by the scarcity of technical sales talent in the B2B SaaS market. Sales Leaders (VP Sales, CRO, Directors) earn a median of $185k, though equity compensation — not reflected in OTE — can significantly increase total package value.

Methodology
Compensation figures represent the midpoint of salary ranges published in job postings (e.g., a listing of “$120,000–$180,000” is recorded as $150,000). Most SaaS sales postings advertise OTE (On-Target Earnings) — the sum of base salary and variable compensation at 100% quota attainment — though some may reflect base salary only. Figures are not adjusted for this distinction.
Percentiles (P25, Median, P75) are calculated using linear interpolation across all postings in each role-region group. Groups with fewer than three data points are excluded. Regional classification is based on U.S. Census Bureau divisions.
Data is sourced from 1,300+ public job postings scraped from major job boards in Q1 2026, supplemented with Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) for government benchmark comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions
OTE (On-Target Earnings) is the total expected annual compensation for a sales role when 100% of quota is achieved. It includes base salary plus variable/commission pay at target.
This data is aggregated from 1,300+ public SaaS job postings across major job boards including Adzuna, CareerJet, Greenhouse, Lever, and others. Results are cross-referenced against Bureau of Labor Statistics OEWS data for validation.
We refresh the dataset quarterly to capture market movements. The current data reflects 2025–2026 postings.
We cover five core SaaS sales roles: SDR/BDR (Sales Development Representative), AE (Account Executive), AM/CSM (Account Manager / Customer Success Manager), SE (Sales Engineer), and Sales Leader (VP Sales, CRO, Director of Sales).
SaaS sales roles typically pay 40–90% above BLS national medians for comparable occupations, reflecting the premium for technical B2B selling skills and variable compensation structures common in software sales.
SF Bay Area and Remote roles consistently show the highest OTE figures, followed by New York and Boston. Geographic differentials reflect both cost-of-living adjustments and local market competition for talent.
